
Elvio G. Silva, MD is a gynecologic pathologist in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
Board certified in anatomic pathology, he mentored more than 125 fellows in surgical pathology as Fellowship Director at The University of Texas M D Anderson Cancer Center before joining Cedars-Sinai.
Dr. Silva is a world-renowned author and speaker. He has published more than 200 peer reviewed articles and several books and book chapters, with a research focus on ovarian and uterine carcinoma. Currently he is directing a grant studying hormones in ovarian tumors. Dr. Silva has been invited to speak at many national and international meetings and was selected to give the Arthur Purdy Society keynote address at the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology.
He has been on the editorial board of more than 10 prestigious scientific journals such as the American Journal of Surgical Pathology. Dr. Silva currently is Associate Editor for the Journal Gynecologic Oncology, and is a reviewer for many additional journals. Dr. Silva is a member of many national and international organizations for surgical and gynecologic pathology.
Dr. Silva received his medical degree from the University of La Plata in Argentina followed by a residency in pathology at Hospital Francisco Muniz, Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was Chief Resident in pathology and subsequently a fellow in dermatopathology at the Hospital Cosme Argerich in Buenos Aires. Dr. Silva undertook additional training as a resident in pathology at the University of Toronto, Canada and completed a fellowship in pathology at M. D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute, Texas Medical Center in Houston.
