Cancers Treated With Radiation Therapy

Cedars-Sinai Outpatient Cancer Center at the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute is a leader in radiation oncology services in Southern California. Our radiation oncologists are highly specialized in treating specific types of tumors. These specialists work in partnership with doctors and surgeons to plan radiation treatment and to provide the treatment in the best way possible.

Cancers commonly treated with radiation therapy include:

  • Abdominal cancers, which may be treated using Respiratory Gating (RG).

  • Basal cell carcinomas, squamous cell carcinomas and Kaposi's sarcoma which may be treated with Superficial Radiation Therapy.

  • Bile duct cancer, which may be treated with High Dose-Rate (HDR) Radiation Implant/Brachytherapy for Other Cancers.

  • Brain tumors and lesions, which may be treated with:
    • Gamma Knife
    • Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) for Arteriovenous Malformations
    • Stereotactice Radiosurgery (SRS)
    • Stereotactic Radiotherapy (SRT)

  • Breast cancer, which may be treated with Mammosite High Dose Radiotherapy (PBRT).

  • Cervical cancer which may be treated with:
    • High Dose-Rate (HDR) Radiation Implant/Brachytherapy for Women's Cancers (Cylinder),
    • High Dose-Rate (HDR) Radiation Implant/Brachytherapy for Women's Cancers (MUPIT),
    • High Dose-Rate (HDR) Radiation Implant/Brachytherapy for Women's Cancers (Tandem and Ring),
    • Low Dose-Rate (LDR) Radiation

  • Esophageal cancer which may be treated with High Dose-Rate Radiation Implant/Brachytherapy for Other Cancers.

  • Head and neck cancers which may be treated with Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT).

  • Liver cancer which may be treated with Respiratory Gating (RG).

  • Lung cancer which may be treated with
    • High Dose Radiation(HDR) Implant/Brachytherapy Other Cancers
    • Respiratory Gating
High Dose Radiation(HDR) Implant/Brachytherapy Other Cancers, or Respiratory Gating.

  • Pineal tumors which may be treated with Gamma Knife.

  • Prostate cancer which may be treated with:
    • Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT),
    • Transperineal Ultrasound Guided Radiation Implantation of the Prostate Gland (TPI).

  • Skin lymphomas such as mycosis fungoides which may be treated with Total Skin Electron Treatment.

  • Soft tissue cancers which may be treated with High Dose-Rate Radiation Implant/Brachytherapy for Other Cancers.

  • Stem cell transplant recipients who may be treated with Total Body Irradiation (TBI).

  • Uterine cancer which may be treated with:
    • High Dose-Rate (HDR) Radiation Implant/Brachytherapy for Women's Cancers (Cylinder),
    • High Dose-Rate (HDR) Radiation Implant/Brachytherapy for Women's Cancers (MUPIT),
    • High Dose-Rate (HDR) Radiation Implant/Brachytherapy for Women's Cancers (Tandem and Ring),
    • Low Dose-Rate (LDR) Radiation

  • Vaginal cancer which may be treated with:
    • High Dose-Rate (HDR) Radiation Implant/Brachytherapy for Women's Cancers (Cylinder),
    • High Dose-Rate (HDR) Radiation Implant/Brachytherapy for Women's Cancers (MUPIT),
