Mark M. Urata, MD, DDS

Director, Craniofacial Surgery

Mark M. Urata, MD, DDS is Director of Craniofacial Surgery, Pediatric Surgical Services at Cedars-Sinai. Dr. Urata is also a clinical professor of plastic and reconstructive at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Dr. Urata's primary clinical interests involve the surgical correction of maxillofacial abnormalities, particularly cleft palate. He is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Dental Association and Southern California Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Dr. Urata has written or co-written articles for several peer-reviewed publications, including Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Journal of Craniofacial Surgery and Journal of Pediatric Surgery. He coauthored chapters for the books Trauma Management and the second edition of Plastic Techniques in Neurosurgery.

Dr. Urata received his bachelor's degree from the University of Southern California (USC) and his doctor of dental surgery degree from USC School of Dentistry. After a residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Los Angeles County (LAC) + USC Medical Center, he received his medical degree from USC School of Medicine. Dr. Urata completed an internship and a residency in general surgery at LAC + USC Medical Center, a residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery at USC and a fellowship in craniofacial surgery at UCLA.
