Physician Reaps Reward for His Feedback at Clinical System Vendor Demos

Participation in the Clinical System vendor demonstrations in July paid a dividend Tuesday for Andrew John Li, M.D., an OB/Gyn on the Cedars-Sinai medical staff since 2002.

Ongoing Safety Analysis for Avandia

The FDA's Advisory Committees met in July to discuss the cardiovascular ischemic/thrombosis risks of thiazolidinedione drugs, primarily focusing on rosiglitazone. The FDA is continuing to review safety data on the drug rosiglitazone maleate. Some of this data suggests that rosiglitazone may increase a patient's risk of cardiovascular events and heart-related deaths compared with other drugs that also treat type 2 diabetes.

Building on the medical center's successful efforts to help prevent and control multi-drug-resistant organisms (MDRO's), Cedars-Sinai's Quality Council has launched an aggressive effort to completely eliminate hospital-acquired MDRO infections.

Sand 'N Snore Event in Santa Monica

Cedars-Sinai medical staff and their families enjoyed a special evening on the beach at the annual Sand 'N Snore event. A total of 38 physicians participated this year, which was held July 20-21 at the Jonathan Beach Club in Santa Monica. Look for more event photos in next week's special photo issue of Pulse.

Film or Image Requests

The Web/VS "Submit Film Request" button activates a Film and Image Request form that sends a request directly to CSMC's Imaging department for a copy of a film or digital image, or to have an image pushed to the PACS web server for viewing in Web/VS.

David A. Kulber, M.D., is not only a hand expert, but he is board certified in three specialties -- general surgery, hand surgery and plastic surgery -- and is now clinical chief of surgery at Cedars-Sinai.
