Dear Colleagues,

I want to wish you happy holidays and best wishes for the New Year. It has truly been an honor to serve as your Chief of Staff for the past two years. As 2008 approaches, I now pass the privilege to your new Chief of Staff, Dr. William Brien, who will take office on January 1. I know the medical staff will be capably and enthusiastically led by Dr. Brien, Vice Chief of Staff Norman Schulman, M.D., and the rest of the medical staff leadership team.

Quality Goals for 2008

On December 3, the Medical Executive Committee approved the following Medical Staff Quality Goals for 2008:

• Infection Control
• Morbidity and Mortality Analysis
• Children's Asthma Care

Cefotetan is Now Available

Cefotetan is available again. The Department of Pharmacy Services has begun automatically converting patients from cefoxitin to cefotetan.

Cedars-Sinai was recently presented with the 2007 VHA West Coast Performance Award for "high reliability and sustained excellence in pneumonia care" at the VHA Fall Health Care Conference. The medical center was selected for this honor in recognition of the level of improvement seen in its quality of pneumonia treatment and accompanying outcome performance measures over a 12-month period.
