More than 200 attending physicians and residents from several area medical centers gathered at Cedars-Sinai recently for a Los Angeles Citywide Emergency Medicine Residency Conference in Harvey Morse Auditorium.

Leukine (Sargramostim) Liquid Formulation of Drug Withdrawn from the Market

Bayer and the FDA have informed healthcare professionals of the market withdrawal of the current liquid formulation of Leukine, a growth factor that helps fight infection and disease in appropriate patients by enhancing immune cell function. The product was withdrawn because of an upward trend in spontaneous reports of adverse reactions.

We have been seeing an increase in the number of patients with viral respiratory illnesses -- even more than we usually see during the flu season -- so to protect our patients, especially those who are severely immunocompromised, the medical center is initiating several actions.

1. Don't hesitate to consider contact precautions and droplet precautions for patients with even mild fever or cough.

What is the Difference Between the Personal Patient Lists & Inpatient Roster?

The Inpatient Roster displays a list that is the union of:

• All patients on the user's personal patient list who are currently assigned to an inpatient bed.
• All inpatients that have the current user as admitting or attending physician.
• All inpatients that were admitted by or attended by any physician that has assigned their PPL to this user.

Personal Patient Lists (PPL) are controlled by the user and provides a way to "bookmark" patients for quick access. For MD users, it also lists patients for whom the current user is the attending or admitting physician of record.

CSMC Medical Library Adds Electronic Healthcare Ethics Collection

The Medical Library has added a new electronic resource, the Bernard M. Strauss, M.D., Healthcare Ethics Collection. This collection of 12 electronic journals represents collaboration between the Cedars-Sinai Center for Healthcare Ethics and the Medical Library.

Study on Intracranial Stent Shows Significantly Reduced Arterial Blockage

A preliminary study funded by the National Institutes of Health found that a stent designed to open clogged arteries in the brain was successfully deployed in nearly all cases and significantly reduced arterial blockage in the short term.
