The VAD (Ventricular Assist Device) team from the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute celebrated the first anniversary of the program on March 10 as physicians, nurses and patients living with a VAD gathered in Harvey Morse 1&2 for a special reunion. The first VAD was implanted at Cedars-Sinai on March 1, 2007, in heart patient Mark Heiner. Heiner, who received a left ventricular assist device, spoke movingly about his successful treatment and recovery at the celebration.  VAD patient Josh Bristow (center) and his life partner, Don, joins (l-r) VAD coordinator Charito Vergel de Dios, R.N., BSN, Lawrence Czer, M.D., and Bernice Coleman, Ph.D., ACNP, at the celebration.
