Body Imaging & Cardiovascular Imaging Fellowship 2009

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is offering 1-year fellowship in body and cardiovascular imaging. The fellowship provides a comprehensive educational experience in an active imaging department with a high volume of clinical cases.

We have a dedicated team of attending faculty committed to teaching, with expertise in all applications of body and cardiovascular imaging. Research is a very important attribute to a quality fellowship program and an abundance of research projects are available along with mentoring and support. It is our goal to develop the medical knowledge, patient care skills and confidence essential to providing competent, independent patient care.

The program is divided into 6 months of body MRI, 3 months of CT, and 3 months of Ultrasound, and will cover all chest, abdomen and pelvis examinations, as well as MRA and CTA. Interventional procedures will include MR guided breast wire localizations and biopsies, CT and ultrasound guided biopsies and drainage procedures. Fellows will be responsible for protocols, preliminary review and final review with the attending faculty.

Fellows are responsible for preparing and presenting conferences related to their rotations to radiology residents including liver transplant conference, neuroendocrine tumor board, multidisciplinary breast conferences, and Cancer Center tumor board. Teaching responsibility includes the teaching of residents on services by review of clinical cases as well as the 1 p.m. resident conference as part of the general attending rotations.

Faculty

The Body MRI and Cardiovascular Imaging fellowship program is under the direction of Rola Saouaf, MD and Cindy Kallman, MD.

Facility

The Medical Center has a remarkable imaging facility that houses all imaging services for inpatients and outpatients. There are six multi-slice CT scanners and six 1.5 Tesla MR scanners in our PACS-based, filmless center. Each of our imaging areas has its own "core," consisting of a separate waiting area, test reading areas, trained technical and administrative support. By early 2008, we expect to have two 3 Tesla magnets. A large and small animal research facility is currently being planned.

Call

Call is assigned 1 weekend per month for coverage of general radiology and other coverage as needed.

Vacation

Fellows receive twenty days of paid time off to be used in whatever increments they choose within the period of the training program. Any time away from the program must be approved in advance by the program director.
