And It Began with a Doctor Who Wanted to Eliminate Pain

On March 30, 1842, Dr. Crawford W. Long used sulphuric ether to administer the first anesthetic for a surgical procedure -- the removal of a neck tumor. In appreciation of the Cedars-Sinai medical staff, the ad below appears in today's Los Angeles Times.

Remembering Saul Niedorf, M.D., Memorial Service on March 30 in Harvey Morse

A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 30, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Harvey Morse Auditorium for Saul Niedorf, M.D., who passed away March 17. Dr. Niedorf joined the medical staff in 1977 and served in the Department of Psychiatry until 1994, when he became a member of the emeritus staff. Please click here for more information.
