Burak M. Ozgur, MD

Director, Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery

Burak M. Ozgur, MD is the Director of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery in the Department of Neurosurgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He specializes in spinal surgery: spinal cord tumors, spinal trauma, complex instrumentation, and minimally invasive spine surgery. He also has a strong interest in stem cell research, spinal biomechanics, and cutting-edge minimally-invasive spine surgery development and research.

Dr. Ozgur is a member of the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, Society of Lateral Access Surgery (SOLAS), American Academy of Spine Physicians (AASP), North American Spine Society (NASS), American College of Surgeons (ACS), the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), as well as the AANS/CNS Spine Section.

Dr. Ozgur has authored 25 articles in peer-reviewed publications, including Neurosurgery, Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine, Journal of Spinal Disorders & Techniques, Spine Journal, and Journal of Clinical Neuroscience. He has made more than 60 presentations at various venues, has written several book chapters, and is currently editing his own textbook on minimally invasive spine surgery.

Dr. Ozgur received his bachelor's degree from the University of California, Irvine and his medical degree from the University of Vermont, College of Medicine. He completed a general surgery internship, neurosurgical residency and a combined orthopedic and neurosurgical spine surgery fellowship at the University of California, San Diego Medical Center. Before joining Cedars-Sinai, he was Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery, Director of Spinal Neurosurgery, and Co-director of the University of California, Irvine Comprehensive Spine Program.
