Steven A. Miles, MD

Medical Oncologist

Steven A. Miles, MD is a medical oncologist in the Outpatient Cancer Center at the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He comes to the Outpatient Cancer Center from the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles where he is a Professor of Medicine and Medical Oncology.

After a long and distinguished career in basic and clinical research, Dr. Miles' new focus is in the clinical treatment of cancers of the liver, pancreas and gall bladder as well as melanoma and HIV-related malignancies.

Dr. Miles is internationally known for his work in clinical research. Over a 25 year span, he led numerous clinical trials of new agents for cancer patients, organized multiple National Cancer Institute (NCI) cooperative group cancer trials and presented his findings to doctors in over 11 countries on four continents. He is in the top five percent of all NIH-grant award winners since 1987. Dr. Miles will continue his active clinical research at the cancer center by opening new clinical trials for his patients.

Dr. Miles is also an accomplished writer, publishing more than 200 articles in prestigious medical journals and books, including Nature, Science, the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), Blood, Journal of Clinical Oncology and the Annals of Internal Medicine. In addition, he has written definitive chapters in DaVita's Cancer, Haskell's Cancer Treatment and other materials about Kaposi's sarcoma.

Dr. Miles graduated cum laude with dual degrees in Chemistry and Biology from the University of California, Irvine. He earned his medical degree cum laude from Georgetown University in Washington, DC where he was elected a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) honor medical society in his junior year. He was also named the "Outstanding Medical Student" by the Georgetown Alumni Association in 1980 and graduated third in his medical school class in 1981.
