Board of Governors members are enthusiastic participants in key committees and are ambitious and generous in fundraising initiatives. Major initiatives have included:
Through its current $20 million campaign, the Board of Governors is advancing the prevention and reversal of heart disease through stem cell research at the Board of Governors Heart Stem Cell Center.
The Board of Governors Stem Cell Center will foster research into new stem cell therapies to regenerate heart tissue damaged after a heart attack.
Research conducted at the Board of Governors Heart Stem Cell Center will concentrate on determining whether a patient's own stem cells--including cardiac and bone marrow stem cells--can help the heart regrow healthy tissue and repair itself.
This revolutionary therapy has the potential to transform the paradigm of recovery after a heart attack, and can provide alternatives to traditional treatment options such as medication, implanted devices, or transplantation.
