Basic Research

The Department of Neurology's Rose Moss Neurogenetics Laboratory has
received continuous funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for more than a decade. More than 100 research papers and many books and chapters have been published on basic research performed by the Department of Neurology.

Key areas of focus for Neurology research include:
  • Investigation of neurodegenerative disorders, in particular the dominant ataxias
  • Investigation of the genes involved in causing or preventing brain tumors and the role of these genes in development and neuronal functioning
  • Identification of the genes that lead to muscle diseases and epilepsy
  • Investigations into neuropsychiatry and cognition, especially the genetic basis of attention deficit disorder
