Caring for Our Community

While Cedars-Sinai delivers the highest quality patient care and advances the art and science of healing through research and medical education, the non-profit medical center is also deeply committed to meeting the health needs of vulnerable, underserved populations in the surrounding community.

This dedication to community service is a longstanding tradition at Cedars-Sinai and an intrinsic part of our mission.

We help our community grow stronger and healthier through over 60 ongoing programs that involve more than 5,300 community education sessions annually. These programs, which improve access to health care and promote prevention and health education for all age groups, include free or low-cost care for the needy, screenings for a variety of medical conditions, health lectures, exercise classes, support groups and flu shot clinics.

The medical center makes a significant investment in these community service efforts, with a total financial contribution of more than $267 million in fiscal year 2007.

One of the great strengths of our approach to helping the community is our tradition of partnering with such organizations as schools, synagogues and churches, local government and law enforcement agencies, senior centers, and health and human service programs. In addition to combining forces with these organizations to provide programs and services, we offer training and support that expands their capabilities and results in a far-reaching and long-lasting impact on community health.
