Thomas Kerrihard, MD

Psychiatrist; Director, Psychosocial Services and Cancer Pain Management

Thomas Kerrihard, MD is the Director of Psychosocial Services and Cancer Pain Management for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center with office located in the Outpatient Cancer Center at the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute. His expertise is in the treatment of pain and psychological issues surrounding serious medical illness.

Dr. Kerrihard is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and certified by the American Board of Medical Specialities in pain medicine. He is also a volunteer faculty member of The David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Dr. Kerrihard is the primary investigator on several studies exploring the role of new medications in the treatment of pain in patients with cancer. Dr. Kerrihard has also published and presented extensively on mental health issues that cancer, AIDS and medically ill patients encounter, such as anxiety, depression and medication adherence. He has received the award of excellence from the Southern California Cancer Pain Initiative. Dr. Kerrihard is an active member of numerous professional societies, including the American Society of Psychosocial and Behavioral Oncology, the American Psychosomatic Society and the American Psychiatric Association.

Dr. Kerrihard received his bachelor's degree from the University of California at Berkeley. He completed a residency in adult psychiatry at The Cambridge Hospital at Harvard Medical School and a fellowship in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Dr. Kerrihard attended a unique medical school program which combined the strengths of two universities, Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). This small program, referred to as HST (The Division of Health, Science and Technology,) combined the engineering, science and research strengths of MIT with the well established medical curriculum of Harvard Medical School.
