Ellen B. Klapper, MD

Co-Director, Transfusion Medicine

Ellen Klapper, MD is Co-Director of Transfusion Medicine in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Cedars-Sinai. Dr. Klapper is also Associate Clinical Professor of Pathology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She previously served as Director of the Pathology Residency Program at Cedars-Sinai.

Dr. Klapper's research interests involve post-transfusion hemorrhage and preoperative autologous blood donations for patients undergoing transplantation. She has written numerous articles for peer-reviewed publications, and she co-authored a chapter for Clinics in Laboratory Medicine.

Board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, Dr. Klapper is a member of several professional societies, and she is a member of the board of directors of the California Society of Pathologists. She is a former member of the Executive Council of Pathology Program Directors.

Dr. Klapper received her medical degree from the UCLA School of Medicine. She completed an internship in internal medicine and began her residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. She completed her pathology residency and a fellowship in transfusion medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
