
Daniel J. Luthringer, MD is Director of the Autopsy Service and is Section Chief for the Divisions of Cardiac and Genitourinary Pathology in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Cedars-Sinai. He also serves as a deputy coroner for Los Angeles County.
Board certified in anatomic pathology, Dr. Luthringer also holds special qualification in cytopathology. He is an active participant in ongoing research at the Louis Warschaw Prostate Cancer Center at Cedars-Sinai. He previously served as a clinical instructor at the Yale University School of Medicine and as an assistant medical examiner for the State of Connecticut.
Dr. Luthringer's academic interests include the areas of cardiovascular and genitourinary pathology. He is particularly focused on the oncogenesis of prostate, bladder and renal neoplasms, and the application of contemporary molecular modalities towards diagnosis, classification, prognosis and response of tumors to treatment. He has published more than 36 articles in peer-reviewed journals and has sponsored a number of award-winning resident research presentations. Dr. Luthringer has been awarded the Golden Apple award for meritorious teaching of the departmental housestaff.
He is a member of several professional societies, including the College of American Pathologists (CAP), where he serves on a national surgical pathology committee. Beyond his work-related duties, he is a frequent participant in philanthropic international medical education programs, particularly in Southeast Asia, Nepal and Madagascar.
Dr. Luthringer earned his medical degree from State University of New York at Syracuse, where he was inducted into the medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed a residency in anatomic pathology at Yale University and the Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he was also Chief Resident. This was followed by a fellowship in molecular diagnostic pathology at the Yale University School of Medicine.
