

W. Stephen Nichols, Jr., MD is Director of Microbiology and Molecular Biology in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Cedars-Sinai. Dr. Nichols is also Co-Director of the Pathology Residency Program at Cedars-Sinai. He previously served as head of immunopathology at Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation.
Board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, Dr. Nichols holds special qualification in immunopathology. His research interests include carcinogenesis, stem cell differentiation and cancer detection (in which he has a patent pending). He is actively involved in resident research projects at the Molecular Pathology Laboratory.
A presenter at several national meetings, Dr. Nichols has co-authored articles for peer-reviewed publications and is a reviewer for several journals. A member of numerous organizations nationally and internationally, Dr. Nichols is also involved with many committees at Cedars-Sinai, currently serving as Chair of the Biosafety Committee.
Dr. Nichols received his bachelor's and medical degrees from the University of New Mexico, where he also completed a pathology residency. Afterwards he fulfilled a fellowship in the Department of Pathology at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Albuquerque.
