Androgen-Related Disorders
Androgens are called male hormones, but they are also present to a lesser degree in women. Although the body normally keeps androgens perfectly balanced with female hormones, a woman's body can sometimes produce too much (androgen excess) or too little (androgen deficiency), which can lead to an androgen-related disorder.
The Center for Androgen-Related Research and Discovery (CARRD) at Cedars-Sinai is experienced in diagnosing and treating the full range of androgen-related disorders. The center provides comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for women with androgen-related disorders, including androgen excess and androgen deficiency. This unique center is the only program of its kind in Southern California and one of only a handful in the United States. The Center offers healthcare services for women at every stage of their lives using a multidisciplinary team approach.
The Center also fosters leading-edge research into these disorders and coordinates educational forums for health professionals and the community. Our research spans the spectrum of basic science to the clinical. Through our multidisciplinary research teams, our goals are to provide insight into the causes of androgen disorders and potential areas for furthur clinical interventions and treatments.
