Surgical Oncologist; The Robert J. and Suzanne Gottlieb Endowed Chair in Surgical Oncology
Allan Silberman, MD, PhD, FACS is an attending physician at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, with offices in the Outpatient Cancer Center at the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute. Dr. Silberman is the Clinical Chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology and holds the Robert J. and Suzanne Gottlieb Endowed Chair in Surgical Oncology.
Dr. Silberman has clinical expertise in gastrointestinal surgery (including colorectal, esophageal, pancreatic and hepatobiliary cancers), breast cancer, melanoma, sarcoma, endocrine surgery, inflammatory bowel disease and anal sphincter preservation. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery.
As the recipient of numerous awards and honors in both research and teaching, Dr. Silberman has published extensively in peer-reviewed publications. He also co-edited the 2002 textbook, Surgical Oncology: Multidisciplinary Approach to Difficult Problems; the second edition will be published in 2008. Dr. Silberman's current research interest involves the genetic analysis of patients with multiple primary malignancies. He has been cited in Best Doctors in America, Pacific Region.
Dr. Silberman completed a general surgery residency at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston. He completed his fellowship in surgical oncology at the John Wayne Cancer Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Medicine. Dr. Silberman received his doctorate degree in biochemistry from Boston University Graduate School in 1973 and his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine in 1975.
