Javier A. Jo, PhD

Research Scientist

Javier A. Jo, PhD is a research scientist in the Biophotonics Research and Technology Development Laboratory within the Department of Surgery at Cedars-Sinai. Dr. Jo is also an Assistant Research Professor at the Department of Biomedical Engineering at University of California, Davis. Dr. Jo's research interests are in the applications of linear and nonlinear biomedical signal processing and modeling. Currently, he is focused on the development of new methods for the analysis of laser-induced time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy and imaging, with applications to the diagnosis of critical disease in human tissue, such as atherosclerosis and cancer.

Prior to his appointment at Cedars-Sinai, Dr. Jo was involved in the development of a new model-based technique as an improved and integrated approach for the noninvasive detection and assessment of abnormal autonomic function in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) patients in both wakefulness and sleep.

Dr. Jo is member of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, IEEE Signal Processing Society, Biomedical Engineering Society, American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery and SPIE - the International Society for Optical Engineering.

Dr. Jo received his bachelor's degree and professional title in electrical engineering from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru. He earned his master's degree in electrical engineering and his doctorate in biomedical engineering from the University of Southern California.
