

Dr. Thanassis Papaioannou is a research Scientist in the Biophotonics Research and Technology Development Laboratory within the Department of Surgery at Cedars-Sinai. Dr. Papaioannou has strong interest in fluorescence diagnostics, as well as laparoscopic and microendocopic technology. His current research includes development of fiber catheters for optimal light delivery and detection, infrared imaging of brain tumors.
For the past two decades, Dr. Papaioannou has been involved in a wide variety of laser medical applications, including excimer laser angioplasty and transmyocardial revascularization, laser lithotripsy, photodynamic therapy and various ophthalmic applications (e.g., photorefractive keratectomy).
Dr. Papaioannou received his undergraduate degree in physics form the National University of Athens in Greece and both of his master's degree in electrical engineering and doctorate in biomedical engineering from from the University of Southern California (USC).
