

Ray M. Chu, MD is an attending neurosurgeon at the Department of Neurosurgery at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center. His interests include brain and spinal cord tumors, spinal disorders, peripheral nerve and brachial plexus disorders, vagus nerve stimulation and surgery for epilepsy. He has extensive experience in radiosurgery, including use of the Gamma Knife system. In 2007, he was named one of America's Top Surgeons.
Over the course of Dr. Chu's career, his research has included sleep disorders, macular degeneration, a neuroprotective compound in stroke and high-field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). He has made presentations at numerous professional conferences across the U.S., such as the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the North American Skull Base Society and the Minnesota Surgical Society. He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons and California Medical Association, and he is licensed in both California and Minnesota.
Dr. Chu has written articles for peer-reviewed publications, including Neurosurgery, Pediatric Neurosurgery, Neurosurgical Focus, Techniques in Neurosurgery and Neuroimaging Clinics of North America. He also co-authored a chapter for the Textbook of Neurological Surgery: Principles and Practice and wrote a chapter on surgical management of high grade glioma.
Dr. Chu received his bachelor's degree in biological science from Stanford University and earned his medical degree at the University of California, San Diego. He completed an internship in surgery and a residency in neurosurgery at the University of Minnesota.
