Cedars-Sinai Medical Center offers the third largest blood and marrow transplant program in the Los Angeles area. To ensure the safety and comfort of our patients, HEPA filtered, positive pressure rooms have been designated the use of this program.
The Blood and Marrow Transplant program has been accredited by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) and is authorized to perform transplants under the Medicare program. The Blood and Marrow Transplant program performs Autologous, Allogeneic related and unrelated, and Allogeneic cord blood transplants.
Drawn by our reputation for quality care, patients from all over Southern California, as well as neighboring states, come to Cedars-Sinai to take full advantage of the specialized, first-hand experience of our dedicated doctors.
For patients facing the challenge of a variety of cancerous diseases, stem cell blood and bone marrow cell transplants offer possibility of a cure or control of their disease to patients who have not responded to traditional therapy, who have suffered a relapse or who risk recurrence.
Acute leukemia, chronic leukemia, Hodgkin's disease, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, multiple myeloma, neuroblastoma and testicular cancer are among the cancers most commonly treated by this type of transplantation.
Cedars-Sinai's Blood and Marrow Transplant physicicans have performed stem cell and bone marrow transplant procedures on more than 1000 patients since the program's inception 20 years ago. Physicians who participate in the program require additional training and experience and attend regular weekly patient care and educational conferences. Working closely with them is an elite corps of specially trained oncology nurses.
