Mahul B. Amin, MD, is Chairman of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Amin is also a professor of pathology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, Dr. Amin is one of the nation's recognized authorities in genitourinary pathology with extensive expertise in oncologic pathology of the genitourinary tract. Dr. Amin is an active member of many national organizations. He has written 170 articles in peer-reviewed journals, as well as numerous invited articles and in excess of 25 book chapters. He also co-authored six books and the two Armed Forces Institute of Pathology fascicles covering genitourinary pathology.

Dr. Amin is a strong advocate for education in pathology. He has organized and taught numerous courses in genitourinary pathology worldwide and has created three computer-based pathology programs in genitourinary oncology, providing up-to-date teaching tools in this area.

Dr. Amin currently is a member of many committees addressing issues in genitourinary oncology, including the Cancer Committee of the College of American Pathologists (of which he is chairman), the Prostate Cancer Pathology Committee of the National Cancer Institute and the Commission on Cancer of Urologic Disease of the American College of Surgeons. He also is co-chair of the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group trial for prostate cancer and a founding member of the American Joint Committee on Cancer.

Dr. Amin received his medical degree from Medical College and King Edward Memorial Hospital in Bombay, followed by an internship and pathology residency in the same institution. He completed a pathology residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and a fellowship in surgical pathology at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. He returned to Henry Ford Hospital subsequently becoming Chief of Surgical Pathology at Emory University in Atlanta where he also was Director of the Anatomic Pathology Translational Laboratory and Associate Director of the Winship Cancer Institute. Dr. Amin became Chair of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Cedars-Sinai in 2006.
