Alan C. Newman, DDS
Alan Newman, DDS, is a dentist at the Headache, Orofacial Pain and Sleep Apnea Program at Cedars-Sinai’s Pain Center.
He treats patients with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, muscular pains of the head and neck, primary headaches such as migraine, cluster, and tension type, as well as trigeminal neuralgia, occipital neuralgia and burning mouth syndrome. He also uses oral appliances to treat snoring and sleep apnea patients.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in biology with honors at Rutgers University in his home state of New Jersey.
He moved to California in 1990 to attend the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Dentistry. During his time at UCLA he met his wife and decided to make California his permanent home.
He then completed a general practice residency program at the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration Hospital, where he served as Chief Resident during his second year. After the residency program he maintained a private practice and joined the UCLA dental school faculty and taught restorative dentistry.
In 1997 Dr. Newman was offered a residency in the UCLA Orofacial Pain and Dysfunction program, where he again served as Chief Resident.
Since completing his residency, he has been in practice at Cedars-Sinai and continues as a faculty member at UCLA.
He enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 young children. He also can be found playing his guitar when he has a spare moment between working, family time and exercising.
