Eric J. Ley, MD is a surgeon specializing in trauma services in the Department of Surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He is board certified in surgery and surgical critical care. Prior to joining Cedars-Sinai, Dr. Ley was an attending staff member at Los Angeles County General Hospital.

Dr. Ley's basic science research focuses on the in vivo and translational effects of beta adrenergic blockade on traumatic brain injury; his clinical research includes optimizing heart rate to improve outcome after trauma. In 2009, Dr. Ley received the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma Research Foundation Award; while at University of Southern California (USC) he was funded in part by the James Zumberge Research Award.

He has written numerous articles for peer reviewed publications such as the Journal of Trauma, American Journal of Pathology, the Journal of Neurophysiology, Cancer Research, Blood, and others and has presented his research at conferences throughout the United States.

In addition to being a member of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, Dr. Ley is a member of the Western Trauma Association, the American College of Surgeons and the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract.

Dr. Ley earned his bachelor's degree at the University of California, Berkeley; he was in the honors program for molecular and cellular biology and the recipient of the Henke Award for Research. He earned his medical degree at the Ohio State University, where he was a two-time winner of the Ohio State Medical Research Foundation's Leadership Award. He completed an internship and residency, serving as Chief Resident, in general surgery at USC followed by a fellowship in trauma and critical care at Cedars-Sinai.
