Syed Naqvi, MD is Director of the Pediatric Psychopharmacology Clinic in the Department of Psychiatry Cedars-Sinai. He is board certified and recertified in both adult and child psychiatry. He provides the latest psychopharmacological treatment to children with autism, mental retardation with psychiatric issues, Asperger's disorder, bipolar disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and Tourettes disorder.
Dr. Naqvi was recently funded by the National Alliance for Research Against Schizophrenia and Depression to study the use of Omega 3 fish oil in adolescent depression.
Dr. Naqvi has been the recipient of the Beatrix Hamburg Award for Best Research Poster in 1998, the Judd Marmor Award in 1997 and the Golden Apple Award for Best Teacher in Child Psychiatry at Cedars-Sinai in 2001, 2004 ,2006 and 2010. A distinguished fellow of both American Psychiatric Association and American Academy for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, he was awarded the prestigious membership to the American College of Psychiatry in 2011. He also serves as examiner for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, in adult and child psychiatry.
Dr. Naqvi received his medical education in Pakistan and post graduate education in adult and child psychiatry at Cedars-Sinai. He teaches child fellows and adult psychiatry residents at Cedars-Sinai. He has published several articles in scientific journals and is a co-author of the book, Aspergers Disorder: A Guide to Helping Your Child Thrive at Home and at School.
Dr Naqvi has presented at workshops and lectured in all of the five continents of the world, in more than twenty countries. His focus has been to make tangible efforts to translate knowledge as well as transfer expertise to some of the most underserved areas of the world, namely Bangladesh, Nepal and Fiji. He is recognized as an international teacher in the field of child and adolescent psychiatry, in general, and pediatric psychopharmacology, in particular.
