Takahiro Shiota, MD

Takahiro Shiota, MD, is a cardiologist at the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute and Professor of Medicine at Cedars-Sinai. Dr. Shiota is also Clinical Professor of Medicine at David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Dr. Shiota is certified by the National Board of Echocardiography, holding medical licenses in the United States and in Japan. His specialty interests include valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathy, heart murmurs and echocardiography. He has been named one of America's Top Cardiologists.
As the Editor-in-Chief of Cardiac Ultrasound Today, Dr. Shiota regularly contributes articles on how to improve diagnostic accuracy and on how best to manage patients with cardiac diseases. Dr. Shiota works in close collaboration with invasive cardiologists and cardiac surgeons to pursue the latest surgical and medical managements, especially for patients with heart valve problems.
Dr. Shiota has edited books on 3D Echocardiography, and authored many chapters in medical textbooks on topics such as valvular heart disease, congenital heart disease, and surgical treatments for heart failure patients. He serves as a reviewer of medical journals, including Circulation, as well as an abstract grader for national conferences. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed original manuscripts and over 300 abstracts in leading professional journals.
Dr. Shiota is a regularly invited lecturer at national and international symposia and conferences and chairs sessions on topics related to surgical application of echocardiography and recent advances in echocardiography. He is a member of the Council on Clinical Cardiology for the American Heart Association, and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the European Society of Cardiology among others. Dr. Shiota currently serves as President of the Los Angeles Society of Echocardiography and Vice President of the Asian-Pacific Association of Echocardiography.
Dr. Shiota earned his degrees in science, medicine and a doctorate in cardiology at the University of Tokyo. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine followed by a fellowship in cardiology at the University of Tokyo Hospital. Dr. Shiota completed an advanced fellowship in cardiac imaging in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Cleveland Clinic. Prior to joining Cedars-Sinai in 2009, Dr. Shiota practiced as a Staff Cardiologist at Cleveland Clinic.
