Nutrition Education and Fitness Promotion Services

The rate of childhood obesity has tripled in the past 30 years. Obese or overweight children are at increased risk of developing medical and mental health problems that can undermine the social and emotional capacities required for them to learn. There are many factors contributing to this problem.  For children who come from low-income families, the most important factors are limited access to healthy foods, resources, and safe places to play.

The services provided by the COACH for Kids® program focus on prevention and early intervention.  To help combat the rise in obesity in the communities served, the COACH for Kids® Nutritionist provides school based nutrition/fitness education, nutrition education workshops for parents, risk assessment screenings, nutrition counseling, and referrals for other types of intervention services.
