Spencer Koerner, MD
VP and Medical Director, Center for International Health
Spencer K. Koerner, MD is the vice president and Medical Director of the Center for International Health and Telemedicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Previously he served as Medical Director of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine from 1977 to 1996. He is board certified in internal medicine and pulmonary diseases.
While serving as Director of Pulmonary Medicine, Dr. Koerner's research focused on lung transplantation, acute respiratory distress syndrome and primary pulmonary hypertension.
Dr. Koerner has written many articles for such peer-reviewed publications as the Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation, Clinical Research, New England Journal of Medicine and American Review of Respiratory Disease. He is a member of many professional organizations and is a former Chairman of the Board of the American Lung Association of California and the Los Angeles Affiliate. He is also a former President of the California Thoracic Society and the Association of Pulmonary/Critical Care Program Directors. He chaired the American Lung Association Research Program for five years.
Dr. Koerner earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut and his medical degree from the Chicago Medical School. He performed an internship, residency and fellowship in pulmonary medicine at Montefiore Medical Center in New York.
