Gynecologic Oncology
This program is designed to meet the subspecialty requirements of the Gynecologic Oncology Division of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and functions in concert with the Gynecologic Oncology Divisions at UCLA, Olive-View/UCLA Medical Center, and Kaiser Permanente.
The fellowship provides training in all aspects of gynecologic oncology, including surgical and outpatient management, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and pathology, as well as clinical and laboratory research and teaching. Of the 16 board-certified or -eligible gynecologic oncology faculty members in the fellowship program, six practice at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and are active members of the teaching program. In addition, the gynecologic oncology research lab has research scientists, post-doctoral fellows and lab technicians. A research nurse specialist/data manager helps to facilitate the ongoing clinical research.
All gynecologic oncology patients are managed by the gynecologic oncology service, which is staffed by fellows, residents and medical students. Operative and postoperative management of a wide variety of gynecologic oncology problems are emphasized, as well as appropriate use of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Residents and fellows attend conferences and participate in ongoing research projects. The oncologists in training instruct and assist housestaff and students and function as a valuable resource for teaching, while developing their own skills and knowledge.
