Psychology Practicum Training Program
Cedars-Sinai Medical Center through the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences offers a training program to pre-doctoral practicum level psychology students. Students are trained in the practice of professional psychology and have the opportunity to learn the foundational elements of the behavioral sciences in a multidisciplinary setting with a wide range of patient populations.
The training program has two separate tracks:
Adult Outpatient Programs
Practicum students in the Adult Outpatient Programs will conduct structured diagnostic interviews, co-lead psychotherapy groups, and train in CBT/DBT oriented psychotherapy with individual patients. The programs are organized into diagnosis specific multidisciplinary treatment teams which allows for in-depth training opportunities, in mood, psychotic, anxiety, bipolar, dual-diagnosis, and personality disorders.Psychological/Neuropsychological Testing
Practicum students in the Psychological/Neuropsychological Testing Program will have the opportunity to perform diagnostic assessments, cognitive screening batteries, and comprehensive psychological and neuropsychological evaluations. Additionally, the students will have the opportunity to provide focused treatment planning and appropriate follow-up care for adult patients with psychiatric diagnoses as well as with patients with more medically based diagnoses such as brain tumors, chronic pain, spinal cord injuries, and other neurological disorders. In addition to individual and group supervision provided by the training committee students from both tracks participate in a weekly didactic seminar and students are encouraged to take part in Grand Rounds lectures as well as many other training opportunities offered in the various departments at Cedars-Sinai throughout the year.
Students are expected to be available for a minimum of 20 hours per week. Training begins September 2nd, 2009 and runs through June, 30th 2010. Students are required to participate in Cedars-Sinai's two-day Human Resources orientation prior to the start of training and are also required to attend an additional two-day systems orientation the first week of September.
