Patient Education
Our staff works closely with patients from the beginning to give them a clear understanding of each step and phase of treatment.
At the time of the initial consultation, patients meet with a transplant physician and are given a Patient Education Notebook. A Nurse coordinator discusses the content of the patient notebook as part of tho process of continuing education. Easy to understand and available in both English and Spanish, the notebook offers helpful explanations about a number of critical topics, including:
- Stages of treatment
- Preparation, risks and complications
- Blood counts and what they mean
- Special self-care guidelines
- Diet and food safety
- Emotional support issues
- Engraftment and post-engraftment instructions
To review additional topics, patients are welcome to browse our library of books and videos on topics related to their disease and the transplant technique.
You will need the Adobe® Acrobat® Reader to view and print these documents from your desktop. If you do not have this software, you can download it FREE from Adobe's website.
