Nutritional Services

Oncology dietitians at the Samuel Oschin Cancer Center provide nutrition counseling services to patients and their caregivers as an important part of cancer care. Our Registered Dietitians have specialized training in medical nutrition therapy. Our goal is to help patients optimize their nutritional status so they can maintain physical and emotional strength during treatment.

Counseling

  • Screen and assess for nutritional risk
  • Provide medical nutrition therapy
  • Provide one-on-one nutrition counseling
  • Assist in reducing treatment side effects that may lead to weight loss, dehydration and overall decrease in energy
  • Offer information regarding nutritional supplements
  • Recommend dietary changes that may reduce the risk of cancer recurrence
  • Offer strategies for family or caretakers to help patients maximize their nutrional intake and quality of life
  • Assist with setting-up tube feedings in the home.

Advocacy

  • Communicate your needs to your physician and other health care providers
  • Assist with referrals to specialists when appropriate

Accessing Community Resources

  • Facilitate home delivery of nutritional supplements for qualified patients
  • Assist qualified patients in applying for home meal delivery services
