Another limb sparing procedure is the iliofemoral or ischiofemoral arthrodesis. Although, these procedures lead to significant leg length discrepancy, patients are sometimes able to have near normal gait.10
Long term complications of these arthrodeses include non-union and pseudoarthrosis (up to 50% of the time). As well, premature degenerative changes are seen in the lumbar spine because of the patients new walking dynamics.8
