Heterotopic ossification has been reported in 24% of patients with total shoulder arthroplasties. This may be present in up to 50% of cases within 1-2 months of surgery and is not progressive. No identifiable risk factors are reported. Range of motion, pain and functional outcomes are similar to patients without hetertopic ossification.17
