Nuclear Cardiology Preparation

A written order from your physician is needed for this study.

Exercise/Pharmacologic Myocardial Perfusion Study (exam time: PET 2-3 hours; SPECT 3-4 hours)

  • Ask your doctor about going off beta blockers 48 hours and calcium channel blockers 48 hours before the test.
  • Consult your physician before discontinuing ANY medication (especially if diabetic).
  • Do not eat or drink three hours before your exam. Water is okay.
  • Do not eat or drink caffeine products (e.g., chocolate, sodas, teas, coffee or Anacin®/Excedrin®) 12 hours before exam. Please note: Decaffeinated products contain caffeine.
  • Please wear a comfortable two-piece outfit and walking shoes.
  • Please bring all of your medications with you or a list of all medications with doses.
