Research and Clinical Trials

Cedars-Sinai's Liver Research Program is made up of renowned physicians and specialist nurses who are dedicated to advancing the science and practice of hepatology.

The hepatology team at Cedars-Sinai is frequently sought out by physicians, scientists, and research and pharmaceutical companies to advise and participate in leading clinical studies. Here at Cedars-Sinai, we currently have one of the broadest range of fully funded research studies for patients with viral hepatitis and other liver diseases.

Clinical research trials allow patients access to the most up-to-date treatments and medications and also advance scientific knowledge. Our expert research nurses and physicians closely supervise the patients throughout the length of the study, and access to medical care is available 24 hours a day. All studies are conducted under the Good Clinical Practice Guidelines and approved by the Cedars-Sinai Institutional Review Board (IRB).

Currently enrolling studies for patients with hepatitis C or hepatitis B include those for people who are treatment naïve (diagnosed with viral hepatitis but have not been treated), and nonresponders and relapsers (previously treated and the virus came back). We also have studies for post-liver-transplant patients with hepatitis. In addition, we are continuing enrollment for a study for HIV-infected patients who need a liver transplant.

We are the only institution in Southern California that is offering transplantation to HIV-infected individuals and one of only a few institutions in the world that is investigating artificial liver devices.
