Cytopathology Service

An increasingly important part of diagnosis and treatment in today's medicine, cytopathology is the study of disease changes within individual cells or cell types.

The cytopathology laboratory processes fluid specimens and Pap smears that are examined with a light microscope for diagnostic purposes by our cytotechnologists and pathologists

The outstanding cytopathology staff at Cedars-Sinai includes board-certified cytopathologists and California-licensed cytotechnologists.

These experts participate in the performance, processing and analysis of direct, fine-needle aspirates, as well as computed tomography (CT)-guided fine-needle aspirations. They also conduct research and instruct pathology residents and cytotechnology students.
