New Employee Orientation and Training

The Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute (SOCCI) Clinical Research Office (CRO) provides new employee orientation and training for personnel conducting cancer clinical research at Cedars-Sinai.  This orientation is in addition to the general Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Orientation and completion of competencies for research nurses as required by Cedars-Sinai Department of Nursing Education.

The goal of this orientation and training is to provide new cancer clinical research personnel with a solid foundation for conducting oncology clinical research, a basic understanding of the processes and procedures employed within Cedars-Sinai and to introduce them to experienced clinical research staff within the CRO and SOCCI for future mentoring and guidance.

During the orientation, clinical research personnel receive a personalized (based on job responsibilities) one on one orientation and Orientation Binder prior to initiating work on assigned studies.

The orientation curriculum includes a review of committees, systems and databases utilized within Cedars-Sinai and the SOCCI CRO, clinical research policies and procedures including SOCCI CRO Work Instructions, review of good clinical practice and an overview for conducting oncology clinical research within the SOCCI.  For CRO staff, the orientation will also include a CRO office on-boarding for workstation set-up, department access permissions and review of CRO office policies and procedures.

At the completion of this orientation, clinical research staff will also be registered for additional classroom training (as delineated by job function) including: Clinical Research Professional Orientation, Institutional Review Board 101, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, and Heart Saver / Basic Life Support.

SOCCI CRO New Employee Orientation is currently available for the following clinical research job roles:

  • Budget/Finance
  • Clinical Coordination
  • Regulatory

The SOCCI CRO realizes that clinical research is a constantly evolving field requiring ongoing education and training to ensure compliance.  As such, continuing education workshops for cancer clinical research staff is also provided.
