The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery uses the most advanced technologies and procedures available to perform the complete range of surgeries for patients with heart disease.
The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery relies on a multidisciplinary team of experts to provide patient-centered care using state-of-the-art technologies and procedures. These expert specialists offer both invasive and minimally invasive treatment for heart attacks, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, aortic aneurysms, and other heart conditions. Treatment at Cedars-Sinai includes off-pump and robotic techniques. Cardiac surgical procedures address diseases such as:
- Clogged arteries
- Damaged valves
- Heart rhythm problems
- Congenital heart defects
- Aortic aneurysm
For patients whose heart or lung disease has progressed beyond surgical repair options, cardiothoracic surgery offers heart and lung transplantation.
Advanced heart disease patients may have an additional option of an implanted ventricular assist device (VAD). VADs can either be used to stabilize a patient prior to heart transplant or as a permanent ambulatory therapy for patients who are not transplant candidates.
