The Barbra Streisand Women's Heart Center provides cardiac risk assessment for women without existing heart conditions or symptoms of heart disease. Risk assessment alerts you to your risk factors and helps you manage those risks to prevent heart disease.
Your one-hour risk assessment visit includes a physical exam, fingerstick blood cholesterol and glucose testing, consultation with a cardiologist and a computerized, personalized cardiac risk assessment with customized recommendations. Additional diagnostic testing may be ordered if indicated. A copy of the consultation is available by request and can be sent to your primary care physician or other healthcare provider.
I have an existing heart condition or symptoms of heart disease. How can Barbra Streisand Women's Heart Center benefit me?
The Barbra Streisand Women's Heart Center provides cardiology consultations for women with existing heart conditions or symptoms of heart disease. Your cardiology consultation may provide a diagnosis of your condition and/or a recommended course of treatment.
This one-hour visit includes a physical exam and consultation with a cardiologist. Additional diagnostic testing may be ordered if indicated. A copy of the consultation is available by request and can be sent to your primary care physician, cardiologist or other healthcare provider.
Women with an established local cardiologist are accepted on a case-by-case basis for a second opinion.
Is a cardiology consultation visit covered by health insurance?
The services of a cardiology consultation are typically covered by medical insurance as medically indicated. The center can provide information about what to ask your insurance carrier prior to your visit regarding pre-authorization and copayments. We encourage you to let the center bill your insurance for your cardiology consultation, particularly when diagnostic testing is recommended.
Are diagnostic tests covered by insurance?
Diagnostic testing ordered during or after your initial visit is typically covered by medical insurance as medically indicated. The Barbra Streisand Women's Heart Center assists you with obtaining pre-authorization if needed.
Carotid IMT and coronary calcium scan are considered preventive and may not be covered by medical insurance. Cedars-Sinai accepts payment directly from patients for these services.
Whom do I see for follow-up or emergency care after my visit with Barbra Streisand Women's Heart Center?
The Barbra Streisand Women's Heart Center initiates medical management as needed, including treatment of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, angina, heart failure or heart valve disorders. The center's staff is available to answer follow-up questions during normal working hours.
In addition, Cedars-Sinai's Wellness Solutions program offers lifestyle management services, including weight loss counseling and physical conditioning.
Ongoing medical management, primary care and urgent care are handled by your primary care physician or personal cardiologist. If you have a medical emergency, seek immediate help by calling 911 or visiting the emergency department.
