Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
The Center for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center provides treatments that range from elective cosmetic surgery to procedures done in conjunction with the treatment of serious conditions such as cancer, head or jaw abnormalities, hand conditions, repair of scars or injuries or weight loss.
The Center's plastic surgeons work closely with all of the programs at Cedars-Sinai, including the Saul and Joyce Brandman Breast Center, the Cedars-Sinai Orthopaedic Center, the Cedars-Sinai Center for Weight Loss and others.
All of the physicians in the Cedars-Sinai Center for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery are board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. A Diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgeons has met the board's requirements for education, experience, safety and ethics.
A Multidisciplinary Approach From a Team of Experts
Cedars-Sinai Medical Center's Breast Reconstruction specialists performed approximately 500 breast reconstruction surgeries in 2009.
This included various types of reconstructive surgery, most of which were performed immediately after mastectomy. Such reconstructions included insertion of tissue expanders and/or implants, and TRAM (transverse rectus abdominis myocutaneous), DIEP (deep inferior epigastric perforator) and latissimus dorsi flaps.
By collaborating closely with the breast cancer surgeons, oncologists and radiologists in the Breast Center, these surgeons offer integrated options to complement the screening, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. This team approach, combined with leading-edge research,* allows for the opportunity for improved results.
