Research in Neurology
Basic Research
The Department of Neurology's Rose Moss Neurogenetics Laboratory has received continuous funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for more than a decade. More than 100 research papers and many books and chapters have been published on basic research performed by the Department of Neurology.
Key areas of focus for Neurology research include:
- Screen naturally occurring and synthesized molecules for neuroprotective effects in high-throughput stroke screening models.
- Assess the mechanisms of stroke cytotoxicity by understanding the role of the serine protease thrombin and its receptor PAR 1 in neurons in the core and penumbra of experimental stroke.
- Test derivatives of the spice cumin for potency and safety in pre-clinical stroke models
- Investigation of the genes involved in causing or preventing brain tumors and the role of these genes in development and neuronal functioning
Clinical Trials
The Department of Neurology works on novel methods to more effectively treat and diagnose neurological conditions:
- Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Clinical Trials
- Brain Tumor Clinical Trials
- Epilepsy Clinical Trials
- Stroke and Neurovascular Clinical Trials
Neurosciences Report
Cedars-Sinai's neurosurgical staff publishes Neurosciences Report, the Online Journal of Neurosciences, E-Medicine & Technology. This valuable online publication addresses the peer-review process and the latest developments, research and technology in neurosciences.
