Research Focus
Viral hepatitis B and C, HIV and fatty liver disease. The clinical research unit investigates new compounds to treat hepatitis, co-infection with HIV, and fatty liver or steatohepatitis. It also investigates new diagnostic assays and liver support devices.
Research Contributions
Evaluated small molecule therapies for viral hepatitis, helping to advance the field of therapy in increasing the cure rates for hepatitis C, and suppressing hepatitis B. Lead site for a large FDA registration trial to seek approval for the a novel protease inhibitor for hepatitis C. Have been instrumental in evaluating a new artificial liver device, which is now entering phase 2/3 evaluation.

Nucleoside analogs and combinations for hepatitis B
Transplantation of HIV infected end stage liver disease patients
Evaluation of new therapeutics for fatty liver disease
Evaluation of new diagnostics for advanced liver disease
Study of novel agents for the treatment of hepatic encephalopathy
