Research Focus
Regulation of pancreatic beta cell mass using mouse models and cell culture to understand the humoral and intrinsic beta cell factors that determine beta cell mass.
Research Contributions
Showed that deletion of a cell cycle-regulating gene causes diminished beta cell mass. Found the mechanism is more beta cell apoptosis and senescence.
Current investigations include:
Mechanism of the apoptosis and senescence in beta cells. Role of DNA damage by deletion of a cell cycle-regulating gene.
