Dharmakumar Lab

The overriding goal of the Dharmakumar Lab is to bring together a multifaceted, interdisciplinary approach focused on developing diagnostic and therapeutic strategies in the fight against heart disease. On the basis of imaging, particularly MRI, our lab strives to release synergies in basic science research and build a rigorous scientific basis for rapid translation of pre-clinical findings to clinical patient care.

Representative image analysis in a 48-year-old male with first acute STEMI in the inferior territory. The larger image on the left is a windowed bSSFP image showing hyperintensity in the inferior wall. The upper panel shows the raw images. The lower panel shows the same images using semi-automatic threshold-based signal detection. Based on a reference region of interest in remote myocardium (here, the lateral wall), all pixels that have a signal intensity ≥ 2SD than the mean signal intensity of remote myocardium are automatically highlighted. This example also demonstrates that manual windowing may be necessary to better visualize edematous territories in bSSFP images with the naked eye. print button
