As a teen volunteer, you are given the opportunity to see the Medical Center in all dimensions such as working in both clinical and clerical environments as well as apply to the Regenerative Medicine Institute Outreach Program (details below) .

RMI OUTREACH PROGRAM:
WHAT WE DO: Introduce students to the exciting world of regenerative medicine while providing them with knowledge and tools that can be utilized during and after college.
THE PROGRAM: A motivational program designed to provide students with a basic understanding of Stem Cell Research within the Institute as well as an extended volunteering opportunity for those who qualify. The program is opened to all Los Angeles area High school students and is comprised of three phases:
1) THE INTRODUCTION PHASE: Throughout the school year, lectures by RMI Post-doctoral Fellows and Researchers would be given within the high school, generally during a scheduled science class. The phase includes an introduction to the world of Regenerative Medicine and Lectures comprised of RMI “Hot Topics”. Contingent upon a Radius of 10 miles from Cedars-Sinai. Special Case arrangements may be made upon availability.
2) THE RECRUITMENT PHASE: High School Students in their junior and Senior years are allowed to apply for a week long stem cell summer camp, held at the Regenerative Medicine Institute at Cedars-Sinai. Students will be under direct supervision at all times, perform various aspects of laboratory work, and receive lectures from employees of the RMI and other departments of the hospital. For safety purposes, students must be between 17 and 18 or older to participate in anything that requires them to enter a lab.
The opportunity to apply to this program will begin May 2013, but you must have already been accepted in to the CSMC Volunteer Program.
3) THE UNDERGRADUATES PHASE
An extended summer-long internship course for a selected few of High School graduates. During this phase students will attend 3 days of intense lectures then move on to summer volunteering with a RMI Program of their choice. Acceptance is contingent upon the following: Students must be 18 and older, currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and have had at least one year of college education prior to applying.
