Board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and in gynecologic oncology, Dr. Karlan is cited as one of America's Top Doctors in Cancer, and she has been awarded research grants from such groups as the Department of Defense, National Institutes of Health and the Ahmanson Foundation. Her research interests include the genetic definition and phenotypic determinants of human ovarian carcinomas, molecular biomarkers in ovarian cancer and oncogene expression. Dr. Karlan has written numerous articles for such peer-reviewed publications as the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, International Journal of Gynecological Cancer and Cancer Research. She is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists, International Gynecologic Cancer Society, Society for Gynecologic Investigation, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and American College of Surgeons. Dr. Karlan is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard-Radcliffe College. She received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and the Harvard-Massachusetts Institute of Technology Program in Health Sciences and Technology. After finishing her residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital, Dr. Karlan completed a fellowship in molecular biology at Yale University School of Medicine and a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at UCLA School of Medicine. |
